Properties and Uses

Kelumpang

The timber is moderately hard and moderately heavy with a density of 560-640 kg/m3 air dry. It is classified under light hardwood in Malaysia. The sapwood is lighter in colour than and is not sharply differentiated from the heartwood, which is straw-coloured to light brown. Texture is rather coarse and uneven due to the presence of large rays. Grain is straight to shallowly interlocked. The timber has not been tested in the FRIM, Kepong, but is reported to be weak. The timber is reputed to be easy to saw and work. It is non-durable, being susceptible to both powder-post beetles and dry wood termites.
