General Characteristics

Sapwood: Not differented from heartwood. Heartwood: Light yellow-brown. Texture: moderately coarse and even; grain straight to deeply interlocked, sometimes wavy. Weight (Air-dry): Wood soft light, ranging from 18-29 lb/cu.ft. with an average of 25 lb/cu ft. Durability: Not durable under exposed conditions, but for used indoors it is moderately durable.


Structure

Growth rings present but variable in distinctness; demarcated by layers of thicker-walled fibres. Vessels medium sized; few to moderately few; solitary and in radial groups of 3 to 4; lacking deposits and tyloses. Wood Parenchyma present in narrow, closely spaced apotracheal bands. Ripple marks absent. Intercellular canals absent, but latex traces present and may be mistaken for radial canals. ( see under Other features).

Uses

The timber is suitable for boxes and crates and also for core veneer plywood manufacture. The timber is most likely to be suitable for pulp and paper manufacture
