General Characteristics

Sapwood: Not differentiated from heartwood. Heartwood: Creamy white . Texture: Fine and uneven due to the islands of included phloem; grain straight. Weight (Air-dry): Wood soft and light, ranging from 21-25 lb/cu.ft. with an average of 23 lb/cu ft. Durability: Not durable, liable to be attacked by sap-stain fungi.


Structure

Vessels moderately few, small; mostly in radial groups of 3 or 4 or more; tyloses and deposits absent. Wood Parenchyma scarce except when sorrounding the islands of included phloem; not visible with a hand lens. Rays very fine, jus visible with a hand lens, not prominent on radial surface. Ripple marks absent. Intercellular canals absent .

Uses

The timber is suitable for packing crates, plywood, disposable chopsticks and ladies shoes heels, the diseased wood valued as an incense.
