General Characteristics

Sapwood: No Different from heartwood. Heartwood: Brown to red brown . Texture: Fine and even: grain straight, interlocked or wavy, planed surface smooth but not lustrous. Weight (Air-dry): Wood Wood hard, moderately heavy to heavy ranging from 44-59 lb/cu.ft. with an average of 55 lb/cu ft. Durability: Only moderately durable.


Structure

Growth rings absent. Vessels moderately few to numerous, small to medium sized; mostly in radial groups of 2 to 4; tyloses occassionally present; yellowish deposits present. Wood Parenchyma abundant in narrow, regularly spaced apotracheal bands. Conspicuous on longitudinal surface. Rays narrow, barely visible to the naked eye; not conspicuous on radial surface. Ripple marks absent. Intercellular canals absent .

Uses

The timber is suitable for heavy and medium construction under cover, posts, tool handles, tunery, furniture, carving, generel house construction and wooden pallets.
