Species Major species: Cedrela sureni (Bl.) Burk.; C. serrata Royle.
General Characteristics Sapwood: Grey white or pink, sharply defined. Heartwood: Light red or red brown. Texture: Moderately coarse and uneven due to the ring-porous structure; grain interlocked and wavy. Weight (Air-dry): Wood soft and light, ranging from 17-33 lb/cu.ft. with an average of 26 lb/cu ft. Durability: Not durable, usceptible to powder-post beetle attacks.
Structure Growth rings present and distinct to the naked eyes due to its ring-porous structure. Vessels of the pore-ring, remainder medium-sized; few; solitary and in radial groups of 2-3 tyloses scarce and deposits present occassionally dark-coloured and gum-like. Wood Parenchyma scarce; in terminal layers and vasicentric, forming narrow borders to the vessels. Rays fine to medium; distinct to the naked eye. Ripple marks absent. Intercellular canals of the traumatic type present occassionally .

Uses This timber is equivalent to the red cedar of Australia and Spanish cedar. It is highly prized as high-class cabinet wood and also suitable for interior finishing, panelling, furniture manufacture, plywood, fancy article, cigar boxes and other decorative purposes.
