General Characteristics

Sapwood: Not differentiated from the heartwood. Heartwood: Pale yellow to yellow brown. Texture: Fine to moderately fine and even; grain straight interlocked, sometimes deeply interlocked. Weight (Air-dry): Wood moderately hard, moderately heavy, ranging from 36-62 lb/cu.ft. with an average of 49 lb/cu ft. Durability: Only moderately durable under exposed condition.


Structure

Growth rings not distant even when present, demarcated by layers of denser fibres. Vessel numerous, very small to small, mostly small; in radial groups of 2 to 4, rarely more; perforation plates scalariform but difficult to spot with a lens; tyloses absent; light coloured deposits sometimes present. Wood Parenchyma scarce of absent; if present in diffuse patches. Rays very fine to moderately fine, just visible to the naked eyes; not conspicuous on radial surface. Ripple marks absent. Intercellular canals absent.

Lather test produces a slight lather .


Uses

The timber is suitable for general utility timber. If obtained in sufficient quantities, I may be suitable for furniture manufacture, flooring,mouldings and partitioning.
