Major species: Gordonia concentricicatic Burk. Other species: G. taipingensis Burk.


General Characteristics

Sapwood: Not differentiated from the heartwood. Heartwood: Red-brown or purple red-brown. Texture: Fine and even; grain interlocked. Weight (Air-dry): Wood moderately hard and moderately heavy ranging from 44-45 lb/cu.ft. with an average of 46 lb/cu ft. Durability: Only moderately durable under exposed condition.


Structure

Growth rings absent. Vessels moderately small, numerous to very numerous; mostly solitary and in paris; perforation plates scalariform but due to the small size of vessels, they are hard to discern even with a lens. Wood Parenchyma sparse, occuring as diffuse strands in between rays. Rays fine and nt conspicuous on the radial surface. Ripple marks absent. Intercellular canals absent.

Uses

The timber is suitable for flooring, panelling, door and window frames, planking, plywood manufacure, wooden pallets and charchoal manufacture.
