A mono-specific timber, Heritia littoralis (Dungun)


General Characteristics

Sapwood: Pale brown or pink brown merging into the heartwood. Heartwood: Red brown, puplish red brown to dark brown. Texture: Moderately fine and even; grain interlocked or irregular. Weight (Air-dry): 55-58 lb/cu.ft. with an average of 57 lb/cu ft. Durability: Moderate durable when used in contact with the ground.


Structure

Growth rings occassionally present; tyloses present but not abundant; yellow brown deposits common. Wood Parenchyma present but very indistinct event with a lens; mainly occuring in fine wavy lines running form ray to ray; also present in small diffused patches. Rays moderately fine and not distinct. Not conspicuous on radial surface. Ripple marks occassionally present but very faint. Intercellular canals of the traumatic type present occassionally in some of the material examined.
