Mangrove forests in Peninsular Malaysia are a dwindling resource caused by continual alienation avtivities for various landuses which are assumed to be of greater economic value. These will lead to environmental transformations which are in direct conflict with the multiple-use traditional management system of the coastal human communities. It is urgent that a National Mangrove Management Plan be drawn up to avoid further irrevocable loss of valuable mangrove resources.
