The strength classification system of Malaysian timbers was developed through many decades of rigorous works. Anecdotal evidence indicated that the assessment of mechanical properties of Malaysia Timbers was initiated circa 1920s. This article is an abridgement of over ninety years of chorological developments related to the strength classification system of Malaysian timbers. A continuous improvement of the system is necessary for Malaysian timbers to sustain the market competitiveness of the modern-day industry. Hopefully, this document will be an excellent guidance for any future work regarding the strength classification of Malaysian timbers.
