National Seminar on Forestry CDM -

Due to the late international agreement on modalities and procedures, the forestry CDM Lags behind other sectors such as energy. Recognising the need for potential stakeholders to be kept abreast of the latest development in forestry CDM, a National Seminar on Forestry CDM was conducted recently at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM).

A total of 83 participants comprising of planters, researchers, academicians, government officials, NGOs, desicion/policy makers, property developers and individuals involved in forest management, natural resource management, land-use planning and development attended the seminar.

The seminar was organised to increase awareness on Forestry CDM and possible projects that would be generated. In addition, the Seminar aims to develop a roadmap for forestry CDM activities through the panel discussion. Another important objective was to develop and strengthen networks and strategic alliances to encourage active participation of all at stakeholders in forestry CDM projects.

The panel discussion was actively participated by all present. Views are compiled and a draft seminar recommendation was considered for adoption.
