Criteria for CDM Forestry Projects
Forestry project must fulfill the following:
- National Criteria for CDM Project and in accordance with the rules and modalities as agreed by the COP of the UNFCCC
- One or more of the following sustainable development strategies and policies of the forestry/agriculture sector:
- Ensure adequacy and security of wood resource supply;
- Promote the establishment of forest plantations of indigenous
and exotic species to supplement timber supply from the
natural forests (include list of species);
- Promote the conduct of research and education, and the conservation
of biological diversity;
- Establish forest areas for recreation, co - tourism and public awareness
and education;
- Encourageprivate investment in forestry projects including the
development of forest plantations in alienated or non-forested lands;
- Promote establishment of community forests to cater needs of local
communities for eradication of poverty and diversification of income sources;
- Promote involvement of local community in forestry development
and agro-forestry programmes
- Foster closer international cooperation in sustainable forest
management and to benefit from transfer of technology
- The project shall conform to the related national and state legislation's/regulations of Malaysia
- The project proponent should justify that the project utilizes the most appropriate technologies.
- The project proponents of non-small scale projects must justify the ability to implement the proposed project based on the following:
- Locally incorporated company with a paid - up capital of at least RM 50,000.00
- Likely sources of financing the project
